Greetings, banjoists!I'll be doing a 2 1/2 hour live workshop on Zoom called Generating New Licks and Ideas (CLICK HERE!) Saturday, Dec 4, 2021 at 1pm Central.
I've spent a lot of time transcribing solos by other players - Earl Scruggs, J.D. Crowe, Bill Emerson, and other banjoists, and also solos by Benny Goodman, Django Reinhardt, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, pedal steel licks, piano licks, and a lot more.
I love learning other players's solos. But I don't learn an Earl or Django solo so I can be an Earl Scruggs player or play in a Gypsy Jazz band. I learn them to discover new ideas, and then I experiment with those ideas to come up with my own.
In hour 1 we'll learn an Earl Scruggs or J.D. Crowe solo. Then we'll use specific licks from the solo to explore the fingerboard and to come up up with our own licks and ideas.
In hour 2 we'll repeat the same process with one of my solos. The last half hour will be questions and answers.
The last half hour will be for questions and answers.
I'll tab the solos beforehand with a few lick variations, but we'll explore most of the options live, and I'll tab those lick variations when I edit the video.
Video and extra tabs will be up a week or two after and available to workshop participants for at least a year.Join us! If you sign up and can't make the live event, you'll have access to the video and tabs within a week or so. Generating New Licks and Ideas (CLICK HERE!)
